Abstract
This lecture examines the role of ovarian stimulation (OS) in assisted reproduction techniques (ART). We will look at the predictive value of commonly used patient characteristics, such as FSH and age, for defining an ovarian stimulation regimen. In addition, we will examine the role of novel biomarkers, particularly anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) and the antral follicle count (AFC), in the prediction of ovarian response. The development of gonadotropins preparations and how they impact on the individualization of OS strategies will be presented. Finally, a simple evidence-based algorithm will be presented to individualize ovarian stimulation and to prevent complications such as cycle cancellation and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
